Kiwi Crate: May 2013: Feathered Friends

This is a late post, as I thought I already posted my review.  Don't forget to enter my contest to win a $20.00 gift card to Kiwi Crate.  The post is a couple posts down, or you can use the search box on the right.  This month's Kiwi Crate theme was “Feathered Friends”.  The two main projects were the bird mask and wings and a project to make a bird nest and eggs. This month's box was packed full of items.  There was also an 2 additional booklets of information.  The first booklet was a sneak peak at the June, July and August Crates!  I am really excited for the crates this summer, as I know my son will love them.  If you want to be surprised, stop reading after you see the picture of the booklet Camp Kiwi.  My son L is almost 4 and he didn't need very much help at all with the projects.
Here is what was in the box:
How the box comes

First Look
All the contents
Bird Nest and Eggs project
You put the glue in the cup with the yarn and mix.  L doesn't like getting his hands messy, but he did it.
Then you flatten the yarn around the bowl (stopping 3/4  the way down).
You let it dry for 24 hrs and then remove from the bowl
They included a white crayon so you can draw a pattern on your eggs.  Then you paint them blue. EVERY SINGLE item you need is included (well, minus the paper towels)
Bird Mask and Wings Supplies.  They included beaks for a kiwi, duck and woodpecker.  The child puts Velcro dots on each beak, so the child can switch out what bird he/she wants to be.
Making the mask.  The parent was instructed to tie the knot on each end of the elastic after the child threaded it through.
Lacing elastic through the wings
Completed Projects
Close Up of the Nest and Eggs.
This book gave information about various birds and then had space for the child to draw the  bird they talk about.

Final Thoughts: I really love Kiwi Crate.  They have the best customer service and product for your money.  If I had to cancel all my boxes but 1, this is the box I would keep.  I loved this months box.  My son wore his costume and “flew”all around the yard.  If you want to try out Kiwi Crate, click HERE to save $10.00 off your first crate making it $9.95.  You can add materials for a sibling for only $7.95 also!  The other great thing is you can skip a month or cancel right from the website.  Keep reading if you want to see the sneak peeks for the summer month's kits.

June: Nature Explorers.  July Wonders of Water and August: Fun with Flight

Bluum May 2013 Cover Up and Balancing Act.

This is my second month with Bluum. I really enjoyed my first box and decided to also get a box for my 3 year old.  My 3 year old is almost 4, so I knew going in I might get some things that are too young for him.  Bluum sends out boxes every month with a theme according to the child's age.  It is for 0-3 and you get 4-5 items every month.
This month, Bluum had a huge influx of customers from a Plum District deal (now expired) and they sent out their boxes a week late.  Their were several unhappy customers and Bluum finally released a statement about the late boxes.  While I admit, their customer service needs improving, I really do love the boxes.
I received two boxes this month: 15 month old Balancing Act and 3 year old Cover Up
Balancing Act 15 month old boy

The whole box
Theme card and coupon for $15.00 off a purchase at Chromatic Gallerie.  There were also coupons for Happy Family
mOmma spoon by Lansinoh (Bluum's Price: $4.99,Amazon price: 7.00)
I am excited for my son to try this.  It looks easy for babies/toddlers to hold
Reusable sandwich wrapper (or other foods) by Kids Konserve (Bluum's Price: $4.50 Amazon price $5.00)
I love this product and will use this.  I like the idea of re-using bags.
How do I feel set of 10 books (Bluum's Price: $ 10.00, Amazon Price: 9.99).
I love books and any box that comes with books will make me happy.
There are 10 books and each talk about a feeling
I love that there is a case for them, so I won't have them scattered everywhere
The book are also a very thick board book (Perfect for a teething toddler)
Melissa and Doug Butterfly Stacker (Bluum's Price: $10.00, Amazon price $11.99)
I love Melissa and Doug.  We have many of their toys, but not this one!

Happy Family Snacks Rice Cakes in Carrot flavor & Yogurt and Fruit Snacks in Mixed Berry (Bluum's Price: $3.00 each. Amazon Price $3.00 each)
We have never tried these, but I think my little guy will like them

Final Value: Bluum Prices: $39.00, Amazon's prices $39.98

Cover Up: 3 Year old Boy
Whole box
Cover Up theme card, coupon for $15.00 off a purchase at Chromatic Gallerie, and a card from Pocket People (free shipping with a $50.00 purchase)
Melissa and Doug Cinco Starfish Hat (Bluum's Price $9.00, Amazon Price: $12.49)
This is a cute hat that will protect my fair skinned little boy from the sun
My son loves this
Melissa and Doug Cinco Starfish Flip-Up Sunglasses (Bluum's Price: 7.00, Amazon Price: 7.97)
My son loves sunglasses and he loved this so much, he wanted to wear them in the tub
Pocket People Ball (Bluum's Price: $10.00)
This is made by Pocket People, which it a new company based on my research. This was a gift for mom but I gave it to my son.  He loves it.
BabyGanics Cover Up Kisses Lip Balm and Sunscreen in Apple Berry (Bluum's Price: 3.99, Amazon Price:  $4.99)
This goes on clear and it perfect for your little one's lips
Pocket People Sam (Bluum's Price: $10.00)
I was shocked by the price when I first saw it.  The doll is handmade and beautifully crafted.  Each doll has a little personality.  Everyone thinks Sam is shy but is is actually quite bold and brave.  I originally thought this was for my son but my email said it was for the mom.  I contacted Bluum for more information.  This is a collectible doll for mom.  I already gave it to my son, so it is sitting on a shelf in his room.  You can read more about the doll HERE
Two 7th Heaven masks.  These are one time use samples, therefore I am giving them a value of  $0, as you can request free samples from companies. (Bluum's Price: $2.99)
Luna bar (Bluum's Price $2.00)
I am not a fan of Luna bars, so my husband is getting this).

Final value Bluum's Prices: $37.98.  Amazon's prices (and other websites)$38.40)

Final Thoughts:  I really like both of my boxes this month.  I was disappointed in the doll, but both boxes were worth well over the $24.95 I paid.  I could remove the doll from my box and it would still be worth over $24.95.  I am going to continue my 15 month old's subscription.  I canceled my 3 year old subscription as he is turning 4 and needs a older box.

Little Sparks Box 14-15 Month Old.

I received my second Little Sparks box today and it was even better than my first.  Little Sparks sends out boxes with 2-4 developmentally appropriate toys each month.

1 Month: $34.99
3 Months: $99.99

My box was for a 14-15 month old boy.  This months theme was Talking the Talk.  This was very age appropriate, as I am working with my little one on his speech.  The cards discussed the sequence of language development.  They discussed current research and listed three things that can aid language development and later various language skills.

The Little Book Club

I signed up through Plum District (deal no longer available) to try the Little Book Club.  I got one for my 14 month old and one for my almost 4 year old.  The books are normally 25.00 a month but I got them for 13.00 this month.  Each month you get 3 books (at least 2 hardcover) to go along with a theme.  If you already have a book they send, they will credit your account 12.50.  They ship Media Mail, so it can take a bit to reach you, but they are worth it.

Stork Stack: April 2013 Review

I heard Stork Stack was celebrating their anniversary and decided this month would be a good month to sign up.  I signed up on April 30th and my box shipped on May 1st.  All boxes actually ship on the first of the month.  Their customer service has been top notch so far.  I emailed  and asked if I would get the May box, and they responded VERY quickly.
I love the box.  Very Cute\

Kiwi Crate: April 2013

My 3 1/2 year old son loves Kiwi Crate.  You get a box of materials to make 2 or more big crafts a month.  My son has been getting it for several months and loves it.  Each Craft is like a toy.  We have all the items he has made and he still plays with them.  He has made a penquin bowling set, board game, playground for a pet, Animals, rocket ball to throw into rings and so much more.  This month's theme is “Green” since Earth day is April. Little Spark Box Review: 13-14 month old

I found the Little Spark website and was excited to see a company that only sent toys.
Pricing:
1 Month: $34.99
3 Months: $99.99
6 Months: $199.99
12 Months: $379.99
The day that you sign up, is the day you will be billed each month (or every 3, 6, 12 months).  The age only goes up to 18 months at this time.    The box arrived in a large brown box with Little Spark stamped on it.  There were 4 cards that were written on front and back.  My box is for a 13-14 month old.  This month's theme was Social Clues and Cues.  The cards talked about separation anxiety and the developmental milestones that form from attachment.  They discussed social referencing (how your baby looks at you for cues in new situations).  The cards defined attachment, secure base and social referencing as well.

Bluum: April Review

I decided to try Bluum after watching lots of videos on You Tube. Bluum is 34.99 a month.  They are similar to Citrus Lane.  I signed up my son who turned 13 months in April.  I was sent the Movin and Shakin box for a 13 month old.   I had heard some negative feedback about the company and I was planning to cancel when I got my box.  After opening the box this month, I changed my mind.  This box was packed full and well worth my money.  Inside the box, Bluum includes a card with your child's age and a description about development.  Once your box is delivered, you get an email from Bluum detailing the contents of your box, the value and a description of the items.  You can also log onto your account and give feedback about the items.
Contents of the box:
April 2013 Box
Card
Mossworld Snack Trap
Retail Value Bluum's Price: $5.00, Amazon: $4.99

I really like the snack trap.  I have two I bought a Target a few years ago, but my 13 month old has trouble getting his hand in.  The lid is much easier for little hands to reach inside.

Melissa and Doug Peek a Boo Panda
Retail Value Bluum's Price: $7.99 Amazon: $8.43

My son loves this toy.  It is wooden and the panda's arms clack to cover the bear's eyes.  I love Melissa and Doug toys and would be quite happy to have one of their toys in every box.

Weleda Baby Calendula Baby Cream
Retail Value: Bluum's Price $12.00, Amazon: $10.10
I had never heard of this product until I started researching subscription boxes.  It is supposed to help with Ecsema and I am excited to try it on my son.
Baby Mum-Mum's in Apple
Retail Value: Bluum's Price $3.19.  Amazon doesn't sell this individually but it sells for $2.99 near me.

My son likes Mum Mums and we will use these.
Real Moms Love to Eat
Retail Value: Bluum's Price $15.00.  Amazon's Price: $11.00 marked down to $6.00
This book looks interesting and I will read it.
There was also a Luna Bar (I ate it before taking a picture).  I was peanut butter and chocolate.  I had never had a Luna bar and was not a fan.
Retail Value: $2.00
Final Thought: I really liked my box.  Bluum's total value on the box was $45.18.  Amazon's prices put the total value as 34.51.  I think I got a great value for my box as Amazon tends to undercut regular retailers and they had the value 10.00 over what I paid.
If you are interested in signing up, click HERE to order your Bluum Box.  You can cancel from the website if you decide not to keep a subscription.
